Recent X Factor loss Hannah Barrett has spoken to the Sun, revealing that her evident weight loss during her time on the show was due to the stress she suffered as a result of the racist abuse she received.

The 17-year-old who dropped from a size 16 to a size 12 revealed that she had been told that she could never be a singer because she was black:

I’ve had a lot of hate — people have been racist to me.

They say they hate my music, they tell me that because I am black I can’t ever be a singer.

Some people are full of so much hate.

What the…? Don’t let me start reeling off the names of iconic black singers!

She then went on to say that it was the stress from the comments that affected her weight and noted that racism is still alive today:

I get more upset when people call me ugly than when they say I can’t be a star because I’m black.

I dropped from a size 16 to a size 12 on the show which was to do with stress. Racism hurts me but at the end of the day I know that most of the greatest performers are black.

People think that racism has died down from what it was like in the Fifties because it’s not out there as much as it was back then when people were going on marches and stuff.

But there is so much racism still.

Fortunately, the 17-year-old’s mentor was on hand to deliver some positivity as Hannah shared that Nicole was very supportive:

I told Nicole and she was like ‘These people are small-minded. They don’t know what they are talking about, they just want to pick on someone’.

That’s right. Next week the Twitter bullies will find someone else to make fun of. Don’t let it get to you Han.
