Sunny Taiwo, a 34-year-old man from Beckton, was found guilty in court yesterday for hiding a number of illegal firearms at his many girlfriends’ houses. Two of his girlfriends also got charged and sentenced for being in possession of the illegal guns.
Taiwo was found guilty at the Inner London Crown Court of a total of 10 charges; consisting of four counts of possession of a prohibited firearm, one count of possession of a firearm without a firearm certificate, three counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and two counts of possession ammunition without a firearm certificate.
Police found guns at the home of Taiwo and three of his girlfriends at a number of raids carried out at their houses. Two out of three his boos were found guilty, with Leanne Anderson, 26, getting sentenced to five years in prison and Shireen Lawrence, 32, awaiting sentencing on 3 March along with Taiwo.
A third girlfriend, Merisha Lesforis, was taken to court last year after guns were found in her home, but she had a lucky escape as she was found not guilty by the court as she was unaware of her boyfriend’s criminal behaviour and helped the police in their investigation.
Detective Inspector of Trident Gun Crime Command, Steve Meechan gave a statement on the case saying:
Taiwo wrongly believed that by using his female companions to store various firearms he could evade capture, however police were able to connect him to all four firearms.
By putting their trust in him, two women have now been convicted of serious offences and face lengthy prison sentences.
Well. Looks like the price of loving Mr Taiwo is a long vacation to prison. Unlucky.
