Reality TV veteran Alison Hammond is making her way back to prime time television by appearing on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing!
Alison was the second housemate to be evicted in the 2002 series of Big Brother (back when reality TV and Big Brother were still very new) and she has managed to keep herself on the box since then with appearances in I’m a Celebrity and Celebrity Masterchef.
She is currently appearing on ITV’s This Morning and has said that it would be an “absolute dream to represent the ‘big girls’ on the show.”
We all know Strictly has come under a lot of criticism over the years for its issues with older female presenters, among other things, and this year the show will be presented by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman following the departure of Bruce Forsyth. Finally.
Expect a varied mix of celebrities on this year’s Strictly with aspiring dancers from all corners of the entertainment world taking to the dance floor. Other celebrities appearing this year include Pixie Lott, Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills, Tim Wonnacott from Bargain Hunt and Gregg Wallace from MasterChef
When we reached out to Alison’s people for a quick interview they shuffled us down to a posh press event organised by Gala Bingo where she was doing some press. Alison is one of the ambassadors in the Gala family, and she took some time out of her hectic schedule to answer some questions about her upcoming Strictly experience. You can read the full interview on the Gala Bingo website but for now here is a snippet to give you a taster.
We couldn’t help wondering if Alison was nervous about appearing on Strictly, afterall, it’s quite different from the reality shows she’s been involved in the past. She told us,
It’s completely different already, I’m learning how to dance correctly instead of just bopping around, it’s all very technical and I need to be on point. I can’t just style it out! I’m in love with dancing so I can’t wait to bring this challenge on.
Now we all know that Strictly is a ballroom dance show, which is really very technical. Alison doesn’t have a lot of experience in this area, I mean, it’s not what you’re used to on an average night out with the girls is it. So she’s got a lot of learning to do, but she is especially looking forward to a particular style of dance, saying
The Salsa dancing routines and the costumes I love Salsa music and the costumes are just so amazing. Anything with tassels on I love as they look really good on you moving around when you’re dancing, and any costume with as many sequins and glitter on as possible, I want to look like a big sequin flashing around on the dance floor.
And because we love to know the ins and outs we kept pressing Alison for backstage gossip. Like, is there anybody getting a little too Abbey Clancy with their partner already? Alison, being the consummate pro that she is refused to spill the beans but after we rolled our eyes enough she did give us this bit of gossip,
A big secret is all the girl contestants have started a WhatsApp group and we share pictures and stories with each other so we are in contact at all times, it’s really lovely.
We were hoping for more, Alison but fair enough. Just make sure you forward us some of those messages then, alright? We’ll keep it Strictly between us.
